She says, &quot;How would we know? On what basis could comparisons be made?&quot; (7). We can&#039;t know because at no time in the history of text has so much text been produced and available. That there are cheaters and plagiarizers out there may be true, but claims of mass-cheating are actually claims about fear--fear that is rooted in a system of ownership and heroic authorship. As DeVoss and Porter show, that idea is being challenged by the filesharing ethic. The answer for all three authors is to address the technologies, not the fear, and look to students to learn more about what is going on.
